Newport High School families,

State testing season is almost here, and I want to make sure everyone is informed and ready to go!

Testing starts Friday, May 1st, with our school survey, and here's how the rest of the window plays out:

Monday, May 4 — Reading (Grades 7, 8, and 10)
Tuesday, May 5 — Math (Grades 7, 8, and 10)
Wednesday, May 6 — Science (Grades 7 and 11)
Thursday, May 7 — Social Studies (Grades 8 and 11)
Friday, May 8 — Make-Up Day
Monday, May 11 — Editing and Mechanics (Grades 8 and 11)
Tuesday, May 12 — On-Demand Writing (Grades 8 and 11)
Wednesday, May 13 – Friday, May 15 — Make-Up Days

A few reminders for your student during this stretch: get a full night of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and please make attendance a priority. These tests matter, and showing up ready makes a real difference.

Most importantly — we want students to come in and put forth their best effort. Students who demonstrate good faith effort and strong attendance throughout the testing window will be recognized and rewarded for it.

Our students work hard every day, and testing season is just another opportunity to show what they know. We believe in them, and we hope you'll help us send them in with confidence.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Let's finish strong, Newport!

Newport High School families,

Prom is this Saturday! We are so excited to celebrate our students at The Syndicate from 7:30–11:00 PM.

A few important reminders before the big night:

Students must arrive by 8:00 PM. Doors will be locked at 8:00 PM, so please plan accordingly and account for travel time.

Parking will be free in the parking garage across the street, thanks to the generosity of a kind donor who made this possible for our families. To use the garage, students and guests will need a parking pass. Please see Ms. Packwood before the end of the day on Friday to pick one up.

We are looking forward to a wonderful evening with our students. Thank you for your continued support of NHS events.

Dear Newport High School Families,

I wanted to give you a heads-up that our 7th and 8th grade students will be completing their spring iReady diagnostic assessments on April 15th (Math) and April 16th (Reading). This is a great opportunity for us to check in on how your student is progressing across the school year.

iReady is an adaptive reading and math assessment that adjusts its questions based on how a student responds, giving us a more accurate picture of where they are academically. We use this data to inform instruction and ensure students are getting the right level of support , whether that means enrichment or additional help in a specific area. The spring diagnostic is especially important because it allows us to compare growth from the beginning of the year and helps us plan for the year ahead.

No preparation is needed on your student's part. We just ask that they get a good night's sleep, come to school ready to focus, and do their personal best.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Nick Wilson
