Dear Parents and Guardians,
This letter is to inform you about a lockdown that occurred this afternoon at Newport High School. Our school remains fully committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also believe in maintaining clear communication with parents regarding any safety issues that arise.
Earlier today, a parent contacted the school and reported that their child had sent them a message stating that someone on campus had a weapon. In response, we immediately initiated our lockdown procedures and notified law enforcement.
Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the report was false and there was no threat to the school. The lockdown lasted less than five minutes in total.
At Newport Independent, threats to our students and staff are taken very seriously and will not be tolerated. We will continue to work closely with local law enforcement and the courts to pursue appropriate action against anyone who makes such threats.
