Newport High School alumna Caralyne Wallace is the Wildcats volleyball program's new head coach.
“We are excited to have Caralyne lead our volleyball program,” Newport Independent Schools Athletic Directors Kevin Reinhardt said. “She has a love for Newport and her players. She has great knowledge of the game and is ready to put in the work to lead us to success.”
Over the past two seasons, Wallace has coached Newport Middle School volleyball. During her time at Newport High School, she was a four-year letter winner in both volleyball and basketball, cheered for three years and earned six varsity letters in softball.
During her high school volleyball career, Wallace garnered numerous honors, including:
2017 KHSAA District 36 All-Tournament Team
2017 9th Region All-Tournament Team
2017 NKGVCA (Northern Kentucky Girls Volleyball Coaches Association)
Volleyball Division 2 - Honorable Mention
Dena Gosney Sportswoman Scholarship Award Winner
“When the opportunity to coach middle school presented itself, I felt compelled to give back to the community and school district that gave so much to me,” Wallace, the Newport High School Class of 2018 valedictorian, said. "I felt the same way when the high school position became available. I truly adore the team I’ve gotten to know over the past two years and am excited for the future of Newport volleyball.”
Wallace, who has volunteered with the Youth Spirit Squad and T-ball programs throughout high school and college, is committed to bringing pride and energy to the volleyball program.
“We may be a smaller program, but that doesn’t have to reflect in the atmosphere," Wallace said. "I’m looking forward to strengthening the culture and excitement surrounding Newport volleyball.”

On Wednesday, throughout Newport Independent Schools, teachers, staff and students celebrated World Autism Awareness Day, which is designated on April 2.
The designation was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, with the first observance occurring in 2008.
"It promotes acceptance, appreciation, inclusion, and the recognition of contributions made by people with autism in their communities," Newport Primary School special education teacher Amanda Zimmerman said. "Dr. Stephen Shore, a college professor on the spectrum, said one of my favorite quotes: 'If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism.', which is a great way of saying that autism presents differently for everyone."
When given appropriate supports and accommodations, children and adults with autism can have equal opportunities to access, participate, contribute, and succeed in our communities, Zimmerman concluded.

The Newport High School track and field team competed in Saturday's Stan Steidel Invitational meet at Holmes High School.
Congratulations to Kayden Lynn, who earned his first varsity medal and claimed first place in the Adaptive Discus event.
There were several PRs (personal records) and many of the student-athletes placed top ten in their respective events.

The Newport High School SkillsUSA team recently completed a stellar week at the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference and Competition in Louisville, Kentucky.
Alexis Long (Photography), Alyvia Loveless (Photo Art Display), Carlos Reynoso Diaz (Carpentry) and Joey Mueller (Construction Tool Identification) showcased their talents and competed admirably - demonstrating skill, dedication and teamwork.
Alexis Long (pictured with medal) garnered top honors in the Photography category!
Congratulations to Alexis and all of the Wildcats for their impressive performances.
Newport Independent Schools salutes your fervent commitment, work ethic and concerted effort!
